my classes/my professors

ok on mondays, wednesdays, and fridays i have french 300, world history 104, and psychology of art 200 (or something like that). then on tuesdays and thursdays i have ideas of mathematics 107 and english 100. my professors are actually pretty funny…

french 300- i actually really like my professor for french. she knew that i was really nervous about starting at the 300 level, so after class she talked to me and asked me what i think now. i think the class is going to be challenging, but that’s what i need in order to get my french to the level i want it.  this prof. gets an “N” for being nice.
world history- this prof is nuts. he’s been at franklin since it opened in like 1970 or something. he talks extremely fast without taking any breaths. but once in a while it seems like he’ll kind of hyperventilate– it’s kind of amusing. his face gets really red and he sweats while he’s teaching. i hear he’s the most animated history teacher, and i see why. his class is definitely going to be challenging, but i think it’ll be good. i just hope he doesn’t have a stroke like next week. he gets a “C” for crazy.
psych. of art- this man has got to be my favorite professor thus far. he is this old british guy and he’s hilarious! like the first thing i heard him say was, “why can’t i see out of my bloody glasses? i must’ve scratched the hell out of them this morning!” i dunno, i thought it was funny. and he went on to call himself a “smartass” like 3 times during the course of the class. niiiice. he gets an A+ for quite possibly being the coolest prof as well as the one who cusses the most. D

ideas in mathematics- alright so the prof for this class is German. he has an incredibly thick accent which makes me giggle because i picture Einstein standing up there as my teacher or something. i tend to zone out because half the time i can’t really understand the man. i dozed off a few times today and i felt like every time i opened my eyes, he was looking at me. not so good, huh? anyhoo, all i can think of is the man’s accent. he gets an “I” for incomprehensible.

english- and finally we have the class im super not looking forward to– english 100. the professor seems nice, but they all are the first week. i hear she’ll tear my papers apart. oh joy. she seems pretty intense; we did a lot of writing today… that’s all i can really say about her just cause i’m tired of typing D she gets an “H” for hardcore.

yes, i have my own grading system. thank you and have a nice day D

switzerland has got to be the most beautiful country i have ever seen [thus far]. there is so much green, so much nature, so little trash and shit everywhere. we went to the valley, and through the valley was the clearest river water i have ever seen in my LIFE. it was amazing. aaaand i saw my first real waterfall– wow. what a day the town in the valley consists of a population of less than 100 people– they may be far from civilization, but damn, what a view to wake up to.  check out the pictures here! sorry i haven’t been writing much, it’s just been busy busy busy. classes start tomorrow, beginning with French 300 at 9:40… i hope all goes well!!! D
oh and for the record, i don’t neeeeed to sober up, Anil. i’m just high on life [unlike a certain crackhead brother i know].

swiss laws–weird.

ok so i’ve learned a lot about switzerland in the last 2 days. considering i knew nothing other than the fact that it’s neutral, this is a huge step up.

1. you have to throw your trash away in black plastic bags in certain receptacles in the city. you have to.
2. cross the streets on the yellow crosswalk– if you get hit by a car and you’re not on the crosswalk, then you  have to pay for damage to the car and yourself. so basically don’t get hit by a car. we’re not in kansas anymore, dorothy.

3. switzerland has a “quiet time.” that is, from like 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. or something, you have to keep the noise down. so yelling down the street when you’re piss drunk and don’t know what you’re doing, playing loud music–all no-nos. people could call the cops on you!

i think there are some more but i don’t exactly remember what they are… soooooo yeah. ) oh those swiss.

First Day Here!

ok so we arrived in Zurich at the buttcrack of dawn this morning– the flight was ok! i couldn’t sleep, but neither could the people around me, so that’s cool. i was sitting in the aisle with 3 other people who seemed pretty cool. 2 are from seattle and the other kid is from upstate ny. we got along well cause the new yorker and i definitely had the same sense of humor. good stuff.

anyhooooo i got up to stretch my legs and this jewish kid was doing the same in the back of the plane (he had on his yamaka (sp?) and everything)… so he started talking to me about how it’s weird for him to be among all these college students and this and that cause he’s done with school or whatever. he was actually on his was to israel which i thought was pretty cool. anyway, somehow the topic of me being muslim came up and this brooklyn-born jew thought i was a terrorist or something. funny right? wrong. you know what he asked me?! “so why do they [muslims] brainwash these kids at young ages to do these terrible things?” i was like, “well sir, my people believe in a holy war.” ok ok ok i didn’t say that, but i really wanted to pop him in the face and make that yamaka fall off his stupid head. what a tard.

alright so we got to zurich and waited forever but it was worth it cause the scenery on the way to lugano was breathtaking. switzerland is probably the most beautiful country i have ever seen in my life. rivers, mountains, green everywhere. i love it. and furthermore, Lugano is a gorgeous city. little streets, cool cars, beautiful lake, beautiful people– very europe. ) so we got to school, had lunch, found our dorms and roommates, then went back for dinner. there was an ice cream social afterward, but a few of us decided to go down by the lake and explore– one kid came to Lugano in April for a few days so he knows his way around– so i followed him. we walked around for about 2 hours. the hills in the city are CRAZY. damn mountains!! so on the way back the 2 people i was with went off to their building and i was on my own. i TOTALLY knew where i was going…. nottttttttttttttt.

i walked around a foreign country in which i don’t speak the language for a bit… and long story short, i found some RA’s of another building who helped me out.  this one swiss-german RA was like, “they want me to drop you off with my car” so we’re walking to his car… and you know what he drives?! a friggin BMW Z3 CONVERTIBLE! i was like JESUS THAT’S YOURS?!? and he was like, “ya, that’s one of my cars.” holy crap. ONE of them! the night ended well, but i think all of the RA’s and orientation leaders now know that i’m the dumbass who got lost. i swear it’ll never happen again. EVER. ok so now i’m tired and unpacked and everything–good night! )
